Just think, at 14 years of age a young Mary Joe Fernandez clinched her first major tournament victory - The Orange Bowl 1985 - the youngest player ever to do so at the time.
Fast forward 5 years and the slender Dominican-native found herself in her first Grand Slam final - the 1990 Australian Open.
In 1991 Mary Joe encountered a dominating Monica Seles in the semifinals of the tournament “down-under” - and almost pulled it off!
The sweat, the strain, the concentration and the pain - a painful loss 9-7 in the third…
Now it’s 1992, and Mary Joe has another crack at the Aussie Open.
