Two variations on the Poinciana beat

Описание: I got this excellent transcription by Adam Osmianski from his “the drum blog” page and it’s a thorough assessment of how Vernell Fournier played this iconic groove. If you haven’t heard it, check out the recording of it by Ahmad Jamal off the Live At The Pershing: But Not For Me album.

Adam did all the hard work on this one, including finding a quote from Vernell about How he played it with a mallet in one hand in the butt end of a stick in the other. Listening to the track all these years, I would never have guessed that he played it like this. The right hand gets quite a work out here!

I’m only playing the first two grooves Adam transcribed. There are several more for a future video.
