Salal dam opens multiple gates as heavy rain in upper catchment raises Chenab inflow

Описание: Multiple gates of the Salal Dam in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district were opened on Saturday following a sharp increase in water inflow caused by continuous heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas over the last couple of days. The controlled release of water is being carried out to regulate the reservoir level and ensure the safe operation of the hydropower project.The district administration and project authorities have advised residents living along the Chenab River, particularly in low-lying areas, to stay away from the riverbanks and avoid unnecessary movement near the river. People have also been urged not to allow livestock, vehicles, or any recreational activities such as rafting near the river until water levels return to normal.Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and follow official advisories. Emergency response teams have been kept on alert to deal with any unforeseen situation arising from the increased discharge of water from the dam.
