In this short video, I show how I have added the ability to create patches that can be applied to both current projects and classic games. The idea here is that if you are a coder working with a partner who is doing the graphics, they can create their own patch which can be applied to the game itself for testing without the need to send it back to you every time they need an update.
However, it also has a fun fringe benefit, as it also means the software can become a graphic editor for classic titles by means of a simple translation layer. in this case we are testing this with Hungry Horace, which uses a different graphics format to the one in the editor. With this technique I can easily edit the graphics and patch them into the game in seconds. In theory, this also means I can share the code with others who might enjoy changing the graphics on classic games and then sharing them with the community.
