Here are my reasons for no longer using or recommend microfiber towels ...
Most microfiber cloths are made of polyester, polyamide or other polymers such as nylon. These compounds are derived mainly from crude oil or coal - and aren’t readily degradable.
As for recycling, while polyester and nylon can be “recycled” or more accurately, down-cycled, a mix of different fibers in a microfiber cloth would be unsuitable for recycling.
The potential threats posed by micro-plastic water pollution caused by the shedding of synthetic fibers from synthetic clothing and microfiber cloths, I do not recommend them!
Water is life and currently 1/3 of our drinking water is polluted with microplastics. It's kinda shocking, right?
Now if you love your nylon yoga pants and microfiber clothes you can purchase a GuppyFriend bag to catch all that is shedding in the washer.
But wouldn't a better solution be, to just say no to synthetic fibers? I know that's my goal for 2020 and beyond.
