Many people do not realize that Medicare has a deductible for Part B. And most people are required to pay the Medicare Part B deductible.
However, some do not have to pay it.
If you are on Medicare and have a Supplement Plan F or Plan C, then your Medicare supplement plan will pay that Medicare Part B deductible for you.
Additionally, if you qualify for full state assistance from Medicaid, then you (usually) do not have to pay that deductible as the state pays it for you.
Another group that does not have to pay the Part B deductible is the group of people enrolled in the Medicare Advantage program. Medicare Advantage plans vary in type, but the HMO's, PPO's and MSA's (Medicare Savings Accounts) are not subject to the standard Medicare Part B deductible. The reason for this is when you are in the Medicare Advantage program, you are no longer subject to Original Medicare's A & B deductibles and coinsurance.
So, do you have to pay the Medicare Part B deductible? Probably, unless you have Medicare Supplement Plan F, Medicare Supplement Plan C, Medicaid, or an Advantage plan.
