Joe Robinson '09 first visited East Creek in Willamina, Oregon when he was an 18-year-old Linfield student in Nils Lou, professor emeritus', ceramics class. That course changed his life, and it had such an impact that he bought the property after Professor Lou passed away. Robinson is now an adjunct professor, and he continues the tradition started by Lou by bringing Linfield students out to East Creek for the Festival of Fire. The property includes an anagama kiln that was built in 1983 and was the first one west of the Mississippi River. The anagama is used by more than 40 artists, including Linfield students, and is maintained by dozens of people during the firing process. During a fire, the anagama will contain more than 1,000 pots.
