...Source: Transcript: Per InsideEVs, Waymo is rapidly expanding its robotaxi service across the U.S., officially launching in Miami this week. This marks the sixth U.S. city for the Alphabet-owned company, with 10,000 locals already signed up and many more expected as availability grows. Waymo’s fleet uses self-driving, lidar-equipped Jaguar I-Pace electric vehicles, and the Miami service will initially cover a 60-square-mile area, including Coral Gables and the Design District, with plans to reach the airport later.
Waymo has now completed over 20 million paid driverless rides and is handling about half a million trips each week in cities like San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. The company is targeting a record growth year, aiming to launch in over 20 more cities—including snowy places like Detroit and Washington, D.C.
Meanwhile in California, new data shows that while Electric Vehicle registrations dipped 2% last year, hybrids surged 36%, making up nearly 20% of the market. Tesla sales in California were down over 11%, while Toyota rose more than 11%.
And north of the border, Chinese automaker Chery is preparing to enter Canada after tariffs on Chinese EVs were slashed from 100% to just over 6%.
