Описание: For many years the accepted view was that there are no proven, firmly dated, rural settlement sites dating to the Anglo-Saxon period in the uplands of the North West of England, including the Craven Pennines. This view was based on a lack of hard evidence: no sites had been excavated other than two which proved inconclusive. A project from 2008 to 2019 led by Dr David Johnson, has investigated in detail a range of sites around Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales and firm dating evidence has been gained from excavations on various isolated farmsteads. This presentation summarises the results and considers their implications.
