Описание: These followed the AMERICAN MASTERS episode "Vaudeville." This is a great documentary centering on something my great-grandmother Dorothy had long admired. Although I have a broadcast of this on one of my blank tapes, this doesn't originate from it because the blank tape I think had the original broadcast of the special. Rather, the footage you are looking at comes from a rerun posted in February 2015 by a guy named Gregory Golda. (   • VAUDEVILLE  ) In fact, I was rather surprised to find these promos on the video. I hope he doesn't mind my repost of this particular portion of it.

When channel 13 began operations on May 15, 1948, it was the first commercial independent in New York, and it was named WATV. The station was purchased by National Telefilm Associates in 1958 and renamed to WNTA. However, it could not hold its own against WNEW, WPIX and WOR-TV, which fiercely competed for ratings as the city's big three independents. In December 1961, NTA sold the station to Education Television for the Metropolitan Area. ETMA was comprised of businessmen, educators and cultural leaders. In September 1962, after months as a station full of static, channel 13 was resurrected as the first non-commercial independent in New York, WNDT. In October 1970, Thirteen merged with National Educational Television, PBS' forerunners, and became WNET. PBS began being synonymous with public television in America three days later, when NET shut down amidst inquiries about the controversial nature of its program NET JOURNAL.)
