Opal Card Day Out: Sydney to Avoca Beach

In this day trip, we use our Opal cards to travel from Sydney Central to Gosford, then switch to an Opal bus to Avoca Beach for lunch. We traveled using our Gold Opal cards, and the entire day's journey cost just $2.50.

If you're using a regular Opal card, here’s what to expect:

Friday, Saturday, or Sunday: The round-trip fare is capped at $9.30 for the day.

Monday to Thursday: The daily cap is $18.60.

Don’t have an Opal card? No problem—you can also pay with Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.

Trip Breakdown:
Train from Sydney Central to Gosford

Board the train at Central and alight at Gosford.

Trains run frequently, with services every 30 minutes or less.

Bus from Gosford to Avoca Beach

At Gosford, head to the bus interchange and catch Bus 66A (Avoca via Copacabana).

Return Trip

After enjoying lunch at a local Avoca Beach restaurant, take the bus back to Gosford, then catch the train to Sydney.

This is an excellent day trip with plenty to see and do—perfect for a quick getaway!

The time taken for the train to travel from Central to Gosfored is a little over one hour and twenty minutes.

The time taken to travel from Gosford t Avoca Beach is a little over 40 minutes in the bus.

All in all, it's a little over 4 hours total travel time for the whole day.
