Rights group says death toll in Iran rises to 2,003

Описание: Hrana, a US-based Iranian rights organisation, said on Tuesday it had verified the deaths of 2,003 people during Iran’s protests.

This figure reportedly includes 1,850 protesters, 135 government-affiliated individuals, nine people aged under 18, and nine non-protester civilians.

Footage circulating online since Saturday has shown dozens of bodies outside a morgue south of Tehran.

An Iranian security official has also told Reuters on Tuesday that the death toll may be as high as 2,000 people, including security personnel.

Protests spread across Iran in response to rising inflation on 28 December, but soon turned political, with some demonstrators calling for the end of the Islamic Republic.
