The No Hike- NC Waterfall Tour was put together so that I could FINALLY get outside and enjoy more of the life we like to live. Since my spinal fusion surgery I am still very limited to what I can do.
All of these waterfalls that we visited are either on a roadside pull off and you can see them from the road, or a short walk to an overlook that is accessible friendly.
Be sure to download an offline map as we traveled in and out of service several times while on this trip.
From the first falls to the last, we travelled approximately 75 miles.
1- Looking Glass Falls: Paved sidewalk to an overlook. You can choose to take well marked steps down to the base of the falls for a closer look and even a swim.
2- Key Falls: Located on a gravel road behind the Key Falls Bed & Breakfast. This is a pull off and the small falls is directly on the road.
3- Connestee Falls: This falls is located in the Connestee Falls Park, it is a short boardwalk to the falls overlook. The actual falls is on private property but the community built a park so that the public can observe it. There is a port-a-jon toilet and a picnic table under shade trees in the parking area. It’s a great stop for lunch.
4- Whitewater Falls: The largest falls in NC!! FEE: Day Pass usage, $3 per vehicle and should be paid at the self pay station. The observation area is 1/2 mile on a paved pathway from the parking lot. You can choose to take well built stairs down for a closer look at the falls.
5- Bridal Veil Falls: Directly on the side of the road, and there is a paved pull off if you want to get out and walk behind the falls.
6- Dry Falls: FEE: Day pass usage, $3 per vehicle. Vault toilets. Paved parking lot and well built boardwalk to the observation deck. You can choose to take steps and a paved path down to the base of the falls where you can walk behind the falls.
This one is POWERFUL!! If you have the ability to walk the steps down, do it! Plenty of places to sit and rest before making the walk back up to the parking area, but this falls is amazing!!
** Callusaja Falls: We did not stop at this one but I am including it as it is about 1/2 a mile from Dry Falls. It can be viewed directly from the road and there is a small pull off, but it was full when we drove by so we did not stop.
Hopefully this list will give you the opportunity to get out and explore some of the beautiful waterfalls located in Western NC.
Also be sure to stop in some of the little towns that you go through and enjoy some local shopping and food. We stopped off in Dillsboro and decided we definitely want to go back for an overnight there. It made for a wonderful day out and about.
