How did this place so high? Ah, FPzero gave this a decent score while cardboardcell was apparently fond of such level design. It wouldn't be THAT frustrating if it offered more than one powerup for the full stretch, or even had a checkpoint. But no, there are many borderline kaizo setups all the way. This is only standard because it offers a free powerup. It could be more encouraging to grind it without any save states if not for lack of any facilitations. But in a state where the level just laughs at your misery and doesn't have any mercy, I'm surprised this didn't get a 0 on design from any judge at all. In fact, this could get disqualified on grounds that it's too difficult for standard and impossible to be kaizo (doesn't follow kaizo guidelines, either). I made a checkpoint savestate (and the only one) to make sure that's my limit of playing the whole level reasonably.

In this series, I will be playing levels from SMW Central's Vanilla Level Design Contest 2024. All playthroughs of standard levels will stay blind, albeit their respective videos will be all edited. This means that I only play the levels for the first time while capturing footage. However, an exception will be made for kaizo entries. After I've played them blind first, I'll record their replays and only leave successful attempts.
