In a *two-stroke marine engine**, there are **no valves**; instead, **ports* are used. The **complete cycle is completed in one crankshaft revolution (360°)**.
*1. Inlet Port:*
The inlet port opens *slightly before Bottom Dead Center (BDC)* to allow fresh charge (air or air-fuel mixture) into the crankcase. It closes **after Top Dead Center (TDC)**.
*2. Exhaust Port:*
The exhaust port opens *before BDC* to release burnt gases from the cylinder. It closes *after BDC* during the upward movement of the piston.
*3. Transfer Port:*
The transfer port opens **after the exhaust port opens**, allowing fresh charge from the crankcase into the cylinder. It closes **before TDC**.
*Working Summary:*
When the piston moves **downward**, power is produced and exhaust gases escape. Fresh charge enters through the transfer port. During the **upward movement**, compression takes place and the fresh charge is drawn into the crankcase.
