John C. Robinson, known as “The Brown Condor,” was a Black American pilot who made history in the 1930s by fighting fascism in Ethiopia. At a time when Black pilots faced racism and limited opportunities in the United States, Robinson looked beyond America and answered Ethiopia’s call for help during the Italian invasion.
He traveled to Africa, helped build the Ethiopian Air Force, trained pilots, flew combat missions, and defended Ethiopian cities from Italian bombers. Because of his courage and skill, John C. Robinson became a Colonel in the Ethiopian Air Force.
This powerful story highlights Black aviation history, African resistance, and the global fight against fascism. John C. Robinson didn’t just fly planes—he broke barriers, defended freedom, and helped shape history.
