Mogul Gardens Small Heath Park, developed in 2000 as part of the BBC's, Charlies Garden Army series.
this was the Mogul garden in its former glory of small heath park .
originally the plant nursery. this part of the small heath park was developed in the year 2000. into a mogul style garden as part of the BBC's, Charlies Garden army series.
in two thousand and three, the friends of small heath park was formed and undertook to refurbish the garden in partnership with Birmingham city council and csv environment.
The friends of small heath park, successfully secured funding from, sita landfill tax trust, and local neighbourhood renewal fund.
The once patch of wasteland was transformed into a vibrant community garden filled with colourful flowers, water foundation and planted herbs.
But after years of 'neglect' by the city council.
the mogul garden once labelled as paradise garden was left to rot and vandalism.
Mohammed Jameel Lorn, Friends of small heath park .
Says: "Residents and community groups would take pride and maintain such local amenities with the support of the Council;
if only the Council was willing to listen to and work with us and not ignore us.
Gerry Moynihan who previously stood as a candidate for the libdem is also an active member of friends of small heath Park and regularly takes part in weekly litter picking.....
The Small heath park has become visually disadvantaged and deprived area due to the serious neglect of powers that be.
"local authorities have neglected it over the years and have decided to lock the metal gates.
No residents can get into it and enjoy the benefits of the garden."
Along with the garden, many residents have expressed concerns over the 'neglect' of the Small Heath Park and the Park keeper's lodge which has been sitting derelict for years.
It's a fact that the park first lost it's boats in the late seventies, followed by the public toilets.
then drinking water facilities were taken away..
We’re all encouraged to get more exercise,
particularly for children, parks can be a great place to get active, whether it’s playing in the playground or kicking a football about.
However, if children become thirsty, today there’s nowhere to get fresh drinking water in the Park.
Children often have to go thirsty or visit the nearest ice cream van, shop or takeaway where there may be few healthy options available, and lots of tempting but unhealthy drinks and snacks on offer.
With evidence that children sometimes mistake thirst for hunger,
lack of drinking water in parks can lead to children consuming calories they don’t need, and otherwise wouldn’t consume.
