From what we will be doing in the next few years, to the next few decades, to the next few centuries, millennia, and even the end of time itself! And looking back at everything that has happened in history as well! Join me as we explore the history and future of everything!
Time. Time is a concept that we know all about, love to talk about, can't control one bit (as of yet), and stress about all the time because "we don't have enough of it. For some people, they dream about time in regards to where they will be in the future via their lives, their jobs, their potential relationships, and more. Whereas some people don't look at time in regards to going forward, but rather, focus on looking back. They decided that to know what's going to happen, we need to know what came before, what came first, and how we can learn from it. To know the future is to know the past, and to embrace the past and its lessons is to ensure a better future for us all.
And no matter what direction you're looking in or going toward, time is still the constant. When you look at it through a certain scope, you understand that things are much bigger, or much smaller, than you previous anticipated. This is why certain "time warps" if you will have helped people gain new perspective, because by understanding what you have done with your time you'll learn how to do more with what you have, and not complain so much when you waste it.
Although we all know that you're going to complain anyway, don't worry, I do it too.
So where to start? How about with today? Every day here on Earth is 24 hours long, and our bodies (more or less) are adjusted to that time frame, and we plan out our days and our lives to balance around those 24 hours. Sure, there are exceptions to this of course, but let's just look at the average day.
Think about what you did on that average day. More than likely, you spent about 6-8 hours sleeping (I hope!), and you might have spent 8-10 hours working depending on your job and how far you need to go to do that job. Then, you probably had some free time to hang out with friends or family, eat your meals to keep you going (and drinking a large amount of energy drinks I bet) and then you relaxed with some TV, or played some video games, or did what a lot of people do and just waste time on the internet watching cat videos.
Don't lie, you know you do it.
Each day, whether you realize it or not, is special, and no two days go exactly the same, even if it feels like it at points. And when you comprise 365 (or 366 in the case of leap years) of those days, you get a year in your life. Which is something that scares people at times because days, weeks and months seem to fly by at points, and all of a sudden, it's not 2019 anymore, it's 2020. In fact, we're already into 2020 by a few months when this video was launched, did it feel fast to you?
But now let's look at time in the grander scope by looking back a little bit. For example, if we were to look at the century we are in right now, you'd see that we are in the 2000's by an astounding two decades already. Yes, it's already been 20 year since we kicked off the 2000's and boy have we come a long way in certain respects.
For example, in 2000, we were worried about the Y2K bug crashing all of our computer systems and sending us back to the stone age. And now, in 2020, computers are now so advanced that this is laughable to say the least, and cell phones have become their own computer databanks that just about everyone in a major country has.
Even television has evolved in terms of what is being shown and how it's being processed. The idea of "binge-watching" a whole season of a show in a day would've been a hard sell in 2000, but in 2020? We have Netflix, Hulu, ESPN+, Disney+, and more giving us all sorts of content for us to enjoy, binge, and rewatch much more easily, and more cheaply, than buying seasons on DVD. We also finally got to record TV shows and movies without having to use tapes, which I personally am grateful for.
In terms of true historical moments, the last 20 years have been full of wars, attacks, losses of life, but as we noted, also great moments of technological advancement. Microsoft and Apple helped lead the way into the future of music, computing, phones, and more. Cars are becoming more fuel efficient, and are even learning to drive themselves.
