In this video the sky was blue and the snow was great at Stevens Pass. We hiked cowboy ridge and explored some of the lines coming down. The terrain is steep and technical with thick trees and options for spines, chutes, cliffs and pillows.
The good snow should have allowed for skiing some of my first big lines of the season but something was off. I wasn't feeling super stong mentally or physically and that led to skiing scared.
In that mindset, I should have kept everything slow and steady. But I opened up at the bottom of this chute and picked up too much speed. Instead of trusting a solid turn at the bottom I laid back and bailed.
So this is a reminder to know when to ski below your ability line and when to ski above it. I'm so glad I missed those trees, kooks!
