Country, also called country music, country and western or country-western, is the result of the union of popular forms of American music developed in the southern United States. It is often identified as a genre of music in its own right. [1] [2]

It develops thanks to the influences of traditional southern music (characterized by violin and banjo, also called Old Time Music), traditional duos, musical groups formed by brothers (and characterized by the presence of guitar, mandolin and a fascinating vocal affinity) and of the folk music of Anglo-Irish immigrants.

This musical genre is made up of many artistic strands; the main among them are:

bluegrass, characterized by the classic boom-chick rhythm and fast solos of mandolin, banjo and violin; genre popularized by Bill Monroe and the Foggy Mountain Boys [cited];
western music, characterized by traditional ballads.
Other genres that derive or originate from country music are Western swing, Bakersfield sound, outlaw country, Cajun and Honky tonk.

Vernon Dalhart was the first country singer to have national success (May 1924 with The Wreck of Old 97). Other famous artists of that era were the Blue Sky Boys, Riley Puckett, Don Richardson, Fiddling John Carson, Ernest Stoneman, Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers and Gid Tanner & The Skillet Lickers.

Some trace the origins of modern country music to two influential bands: country singer Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family. Their songs were the first to have national recognition, such as the famous Bristol Sessions in Tennessee on August 1, 1927, in which Ralph Peer was the talent scout and sound recorder.
