This video is going to break down the periodic trends associated with atomic radius and how ionization affects that radius. We begin with exploring how atomic size is correlated with the number of energy levels, and then also explore how it is related to effective nuclear charge. We then provide a graphical visualization of the trend of radius vs atomic number. Next, we explore how cation formation shrinks the radius of an atom and how anion formation increases the size due to repulsions. Finally, we close with a size comparison of ionic salts to visualize the disparity between cations and anions.
