EVERYONE TOLD US TO GIVE UP! - Hiking the Old Beechy Rail Trail (Crowes railway line)

Описание: In this magnificent video Laura, Human and Les embark on a two day hike of the Old Beechy Rail Trail located in the Otway region of Victoria Australia. The Old Beechy Rail Trail more or less follows the old alignment of the abandoned Crowes railway line. The narrow gauge railway line opened from Colac to Beechforest in 1902 and eventually was extended all the way to Crowes by 1911. The train line was once a vital link for getting people and goods in and out of the often treacherous muddy hills of the Otway ranges. With the rise of motor vehicle ownership and reliable all weather roads being built in the Otways as time went on the line was seeing less and less use. Much to the dismay of locals the train line was permanently closed in 1962. Regrettably after the closure most of the railway line the alignment was sold to local farmers.

Right before starting the walk the entirety of Victoria was flooding and the Otways were hit with some very severe storms. A sink hole opened up on the path, there was a landslide, parts of the track were mud pits and there were countless trees down over the track. As a result the Colac Otways shire temporally closed the path because of these issues. Now incredibly hesitant after receiving a intervention from my loved ones to not go ahead with the hike because we might die Human and I decided to go scope out the path for our self to see how impassable it really was. We got there and it was a bit rough but completely fine to walk so we decided to go ahead with the hike irregardless of the closure.
After being dropped off by car we started the rainy hike from Ferguson to Gellibrand. It was fascinating to see all the railway remnants peppered in along the track with my highlights of day 1 being the old balloon loop in Beach Forest and the ruins of an old wooden trestle bridge near Gellibrand. It was absolutely incredible despite the rain. Upon arriving in the small town of Gellibrand we retrieved our hidden bags, had dinner and bunked down in an abandoned house for the night. At morning light we packed up our homeless squat, had breakfast and embarked on day two of the journey to Barongarook. It was epic plz just watch da vid!!!
