John 9:1-7. Suffering is not always a direct consequence of personal sin, as the disciples initially assumed, but can be a divine opportunity for God’s glory to be revealed, as demonstrated in the healing of the man born blind.
John 9 and the book of Job emphasize God’s sovereign control over all circumstances, rejecting the notion that suffering operates under automatic cosmic rules, and instead affirms that God works all things, including hardship, for the good of His people.
Trials, though painful, are instruments of spiritual growth—producing endurance, character, and hope—ultimately conforming believers to the image of Christ.
We need to trust in God’s providence, not as a distant force, but as a loving and intentional Father who uses suffering to deepen our faith, reveal His power, and prepare us for eternal glory. This trust in God’s sovereignty, even amid affliction, is foundational to both present peace and eternal assurance.
