BR Re-Built Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 no.35028 'Clan Line' hauled the London Victoria - Bristol TM - London Victoria 'VSOE Special' (1Z91/1Z93). Originally due to run via Newbury both ways as per usual, the return route was then changed to run via Swindon. So this run became a bit of a rarity as it would be the first time in over ten years that a Merchant Navy Class locomotive could be seen heading east over Dauntsey Bank, as well as being seen between Bathampton Junction and Swindon. It also meant I could see Clan Line in my local area for a second time this year. Starting off at a new location for me, we come to Bedwyn on the Berks & Hants Line. I had planned to film from the station but the spot I had in mind was already taken, as well as there being a unit booked at the same time as Clan Line. Thankfully I had a backup and headed for the foot crossing just east of the station which is quite a nice little spot. After waiting for about 10 minutes Clan Line is seen in the distance winding her way round the twists and turns giving off lots of nice whistles, and running bang on time with Class 67 no.67005 'Queen's Messenger' on the back. The unit (No.166212), which terminated at Bedwyn from London Paddington is then seen departing for it's return journey back to the capital. For the return run we come to another new location for me, the 1 in 100 Dauntsey Bank, and what a rarity on this stretch of line to see for my first time there. With the weather not much improved Clan Line is seen running along nicely once again running bang on time.
Filmed on a Panasonic HDC-HS900 with a Pro Sound L92AA Microphone.
Enjoy.
