The field of education is challenged on many counts by the Adivasi approach to the idea of education, as well as by alternate imaginations of various other communities that are not part of mainstream education. Some of these challenges are that learning itself is deeply integrated to nature and natural spaces; the languages of these communities are diverse and encode knowledge of their experience in varied manners; and their ideas of what it is to be educated and how one should be educated may differ from mainstream ideas of school education.
In November 2024, barefoot philosophers in association with Bhasha Research and Publication Centre organized a series of online lectures titled 'Knowledge and Education: For/Of/By whom?' This series of videos are excerpts from the lecture series delivered by eminent educationists who have pioneered education practices among adivasi and other communities, as well as contributed deeply towards understanding education and its relation to knowledge, development, democracy and the nation.
