Welcome to Contemplative Undergrounds’ Lenten Vigil for Justice, Mercy, and Peace, held each Friday in Lent. We have entitled this vigil “At the Foot of the Cross” because over many generations of Christianity, the suffering of God's people has often been compared to the suffering of Jesus on the cross. We stand in solidarity with all those who are suffering at the hands of our government and others, just as Mary, the mother of Jesus, John, Mary Magdalene, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Salome stood at the foot of the cross of Jesus.
We welcome you into this contemplative space and encourage you to first pray and work for your own conversion, orienting yourself to the poor, the immigrant, the imprisoned, the victims of violence, and those who are denied basic human dignity.
