ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Preparations at the SSC
Sri Lanka Cricket today conducted a media tour of the SSC Grounds, Colombo, highlighting the latest developments underway in preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
SSC will be one of the host venues of the tournament and will stage the opening match on 7 February 2026 between Pakistan and the Netherlands, along with four other World Cup games.
During the tour, Mr. Sujeeva Godaliyadda, Honorary Treasurer of Sri Lanka Cricket, and Mr. Samantha Dodanwela, Chairman of SSC Cricket, briefed the media on the ongoing development work at the venue.
Among the developments is the establishment of a state-of-the-art floodlight system, which will help elevate SSC’s international standards.
The installation comprises a total of 630 LED floodlight fixtures, strategically mounted on six high-mast towers to achieve uniform illumination levels across the entire playing area while minimizing glare and shadows.
Among other developments are the upgrading of player dressing rooms and the construction of new offices for the match referee, third umpire, and anti-corruption officer.
The enhancement of the Broadcast Control Rooms and Commentary Rooms is among other upgrades underway.
