The Gift of just ONE Tree

In this video by Ellie, Faye and Maria - Tranistion Year Students in Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí (Bantry Community College, West Cork) we will show you how important our trees are and the difference you make when you plant a tree or give the gift of a tree. The gift of just one tree is beyond price. You can be part of making a big difference.

As the school chaplain in Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí it has been great to have had the chance to mentor the girls as they put this video together. They have put hours and hours of work into it. It seemed at one stage that the project was over when our school closed for 4 months because of the Covid restrictions. But they were determined to keep it going when our schools reopened and this video is the fruits of their hard work. So well done to Ellie Faye and Maria!

It is amazing the difference one tree can make. One statistic that stood out for me is that one tree in it's lifetime can pull in the equivalent of 1 tonne of Carbon Dioxide. What is one tonne of CO2? It is the same carbon emitted by a car that covers the equivalent of 30,000km. So giving the gift of a tree is not just something random. It will make a real and lasting difference for many years to come. Pope Francis put it very starkly about Climate Change when he said:
"Future generations stand to inherit a greatly spoiled world. Our children and grandchildren should not have to pay the cost of our generation’s irresponsibility."
