This is a recording of an Lunchtime Research Seminar given for the University of Salford Acoustics Research Group by Dr Nikhilesh Patil of Hoare Lea on the 3rd March 2021.
Abstract: A complete design of building spaces requires consideration to acoustics as well as vibration control. The approaches to building acoustic design are generally standardised while vibration design may often require ‘non-standard’ or research-based approaches. The problem becomes complex when the vibration and acoustics are coupled and vibroacoustics modelling and measurements can be challenging. The presentation will provide a general overview of accommodating such design processes in a consultancy setting and the trade-offs required.
Biography: Dr Nikhilesh Patil was awarded his PhD from the University of Salford in 2018, with a thesis entitled “In-situ measurement methods for characterisation and diagnosis of airborne sound transmission through multi-layered building partitions”. Alongside his PhD, he contributed to consultancy projects at Salford and subsequently moved to Hoare Lea full time where he is a Senior Acoustics Engineer, retaining an interest in structural vibroacoustics research.
