The North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) confirmed on Monday that US military aircraft are en route to the base, formerly known as Thule Air Force Base. While North American Aerospace Defence Command officially characterised the deployment as a "long-planned" effort to support routine North American defence operations across Alaska, Canada, and the continental US, the timing has sent ripples through the international community.
