In an unusual move, the Supreme Court administration has written to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, requesting the repossession of Bungalow No. 5 on Krishna Menon Marg—official residence of the Chief Justice of India—still occupied by former CJI DY Chandrachud. The court noted that his extension expired on May 31, with the six-month grace period ending earlier on May 10.
Justice Chandrachud responded, citing compelling personal circumstances and ongoing renovations in his allotted government flat. He also highlighted that his two daughters suffer from severe comorbidities, including nemaline myopathy, and need continuous specialised care at AIIMS.
