Ah, fall - a season marked by colorful leaves, crisp air, and invading insects? The coming of a new season welcomes fresh pest challenges that can be costly to your business. This video explains what fall invaders are and what you can do to prepare for them.

How to Prevent Fall Invaders
Autumn is often associated with things like beautiful foliage and cooler temperatures.
Unfortunately, seasonal changes also present new pest challenges. Fall invaders begin to appear in late summer and are in search of warm housing, food and water for the coming winter.

Some fall invaders, like ladybugs, stink bugs, boxelder bugs, and cluster flies, are looking for a warm place inside to survive the winter, while others, like rodents, take advantage of our food, water and shelter when outside resources dwindle.

The invasion of these fall pests can be costly and can contribute to the spread of disease and the contamination of products. Both invader groups can be managed with regular cleaning, exclusion practices and well-timed pesticide applications.

The following six tips will aid your prevention efforts this season.
1. Inspect the exterior perimeter of buildings and remove any debris that could provide hiding places for pests.
2. Examine windows, doors and foundations for any cracks. Pests can gain access through the smallest of openings. Be sure to seal all cracks and gaps, repair all damaged screens and windows, and install rodent-resistant door sweeps.
3. Eliminate clutter in storage rooms and basements. Be sure to remove all trash regularly.
4. Store food products in sealed, pest-proof containers.
5. Clean regularly and thoroughly, especially hard-to-reach places.
6. Perform weekly inspections and look for any signs of fall invader activity.
