This video is a Keynote I gave in London for the Learning Sciences and foregrounds three telling cases of the logic-of-inquiry involved in analyzing video-based ethnographic studies in three different levels of schooling --
a Physics class in an advanced placement program focusing on
introducing a digital assignment to 4 different groups of students.
a bilingual fifth grade in which students and the teacher were
co-ethnographers with our university team
a chemistry program at West Point University to show the
conceptualization of an ethnographic logic-in-use
For each, I present a view of ethnographic as a developing logic-of-inquiry, or as a philosophy of inquiry to help viewers explore the potential of taking an Interactional Ethnographic logic-of-inquiry to (re)present the analytic work of an IE researcher and what each shows about fundamental ways of understand learning lives in classes, not classrooms. This Keynote provides a detail powerpoint of the processes also and how each site provided ways of understand learning and development issues as well as teaching processes and practices through the eyes of students, teachers, program designers as well as the ethnographer as analyst. This talk therefore foregrounds insider-outsider relationship as a key to (re)presenting not representing what was learned and what actions led to each bit or learning from an Interactional Ethnographic logic-of-inquiry. Thus, it foregrounds epistemological processes and conceptual perspectives guiding studies at three levels of schooling and how each provided particular understandings of what constituted learning and development processes.
