1st #NorthAfrican #Cookout at Fed Farm in #Vicwest. Absolutely fabulous community event! lots of delicious #Moroccan & #Tunisian foods were cooked & given to guests to eat. Many stories shared. Beautiful acoustic music was played. Wonderful new BIPOC connections were made & some reunions occurred too. I had a really great time!

Most folks who came had similar displacement backgrounds. Several of us are war survivors who lost our homes overseas & are far from many of our family members who are still living in our homelands. It was good for the soul to be around fellow POC diaspora. We understand each other better than others because of similar life experiences & we faced similar struggles/racism when we came to Canada as refugees of wars.

I am looking forward to helping them out at some future community connecting events & grassroots projects in the near future.
