SPECIAL THANKS TO HDPINKFLOYD FOR THE FOOTAGE!: • Pink Floyd Live Footage 1970s
Quick Facts:
• 8th Studio Album released on March 1, 1973.
• Produced two singles: "Money" and "Us and Them". The album topped the Billboard chart for one week, and remained on the chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. With estimated sales of over 45 million copies, it is one of the best-selling albums.

Each side of the album is a continuous piece of music. The five tracks on each side reflect various stages of human life, beginning and ending with a heartbeat, exploring the nature of the human experience, and (according to Waters) "empathy".
1. Speak to Me (Instrumental) –
2. Breathe – Breathe, being the first song (along with Speak to Me), means the first breath of air after being born, it’s a parent telling their new born child to breathe and come alive. The rest of the song talks about all the stuff you’ll do in your life, which gets explained later in the album.
3. On The Run (Instrumental) - The non-vocal On The Run is a standout with footsteps racing from side to side successfully eluding any number of odd rumbles and explosions only to be killed off by the clock’s ticking that leads into Time.
4. Time – Was released as a single in the US. The lyrics deal with the passage of time – time can slip by, but many people do not realize it until it is too late. Waters got the idea when he realized he was no longer preparing for anything in life, but was right in the middle of it.
5. The Great Gig in the Sky – Keyboardist Rick Wright wrote this song. In an interview, Wright mentions the song is about life gradually descending into death. He said: One of the pressures of being in the band was this constant fear of dying because of all the traveling we were doing in planes and on the motorways in America and Europe.
6. Money – Starts B Side - Released as a single, became the band's first hit in the US, reaching number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. One of the most distinctive elements of "Money" is the rhythmic sequence of sound effects that begins the track and is heard throughout the first several bars.
7. Us and Them –
8. Any Colour You Like -.
9. Brain Damage – The band originally called this track "Lunatic" during live performances and recording sessions. The song seemed to be partially inspired by their former band member Syd Barrett who had endured a mental breakdown.
10. Eclipse – Serves as the album's end and features a loud, repetitive melody that builds up, then ends with a very quiet outro. ."
Favorite Tracks: Time, Money, Breathe, Us and Them, Brain Damage, The Great Gig in the Sky
Overall Score: 9.0/10 (Trey), 9.25/10 (Shawn)
