new deftones pink maggit cover. this is one of my my favorite songs on white pony. i just love it a lot and i knew i wanted to cover it. usually with my covers when im learning the words i learn something new. and something i learned was that back to school (mini maggit) or is a version of this song (which was obvious to me when i first heard the album) that was made because of pressure from the label that the album didn't have any good singles or something like that. the album was released without it and then they put it out, i think after, as a single. and i just find that super interesting. so interesting that it lead me to some random forum after i was scouring a reddit thread. also apparently the album got leaked and some of the songs have different names and all that. one person was trying to find their original copy and i don't think they ever did, the thread just kind of ends. i still kinda want to know if they have the original or not. i'll probably never know.
i actually recorded this once before and my hair looked nice and i was wearing a really nice outfit but it sucked! and then i just made this one in my pajamas and i like it way better. i also noticed i look around a lot while i sing and i didn't know haha. since i memorized this song and did the chords and stuff by ear, i didn't really have to look at my laptop. i do it anyway though because i have garage band up and i like seeing the waveforms well, form. i love chino's voice on this too. he really puts, what i think, is a lot of emotion it. i really tried to channel that, i even kind of almost started to tear up a little bit but i stopped myself because i think it'd be weird if i just started crying. i don't even fully understand the song. i think the beginning is like please leave i'll only hurt you and push you away or something of that sort and the ending like school commentary on popularity structures or refusing to let yourself be pushed around. that's my interpretation but i'm always curios what the artist's thinks it means, but i'm realizing more and more that it's more about what we take from it you know. if you understood my ramblings, you're the best.
