Reporter Live: No Tokens, No Procurement: Farmers Suffer as Paddy Lies Unsold in Odisha Mandis

Описание: Farmers across Odisha are struggling to sell their paddy as mandi mismanagement continues. From the district of Food & Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra to Kendrapara and Ganjam, serious irregularities have surfaced.

Despite 114 functional mandis in the district and a procurement target of 20.45 lakh quintals, only 7.61 lakh quintals had been collected by February 15. The deadline for procurement is March 31, raising concerns among farmers.

In Kendrapara, against a target of 12.12 lakh quintals, only 6.66 lakh quintals were procured by the third week of February. Out of 51,000 farmers who received tokens, only 18,000 managed to sell their paddy.

Meanwhile, in Ganjam’s Beguniapada block, paddy is lying in mandis as millers allegedly refuse to lift stocks. Farmers also allege illegal deductions of 5–10 kg per quintal during procurement.

With paddy rotting in mandis and procurement moving at a slow pace, farmers fear they may not receive fair prices for their hard-earned crops. Authorities claim the issue will be resolved soon, but ground reality tells a different story.
