WATCH: Former CDC doctor says she learned of change in COVID-19 vaccine guidance from social media

Описание: Former CDC chief medical officer Dr. Debra Houry told senators Wednesday that she learned that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would no longer recommend the COVID-19 vaccine for most children and pregnant people from a video posted to social media.

“The same as you, on social media,” Houry told Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., when asked about the change.

“It's unthinkable to me that the chief medical officer at CDC was left in the dark and about such a consequential public health decision that affected real people,” the senator said.

Confusion has followed in the month since then, as Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has said people who still want the vaccine can still access it, without providing details about how. Some states have taken their own actions to provide the vaccines to residents. Murray wanted to know how this change in COVID-19 vaccine guidance was supported by scientific evidence.

“We have not seen the data yet,” Houry said. “In fact, after the tweet came out, we asked for a written memo from [the Department of Health and Human Services] because I couldn't implement guidance off of a tweet.”

The written memo, Houry added, didn't have the same message as the video.
