On what was supposed to be my final floatplane flight of the year, everything looked calm on the surface…clear skies, good winds, ready for one last adventure. But in the backcountry of Alaska, calm doesn’t always mean safe.

Join me in the cockpit of 13C as I push out to one last lake, only to watch the winds pick up, the forecast fall apart, and nature re-set the schedule. From mountains, rotor zones and cloud layers, to the perfect “Goldilocks” landing and the end of float season. This is flying Alaska on its own terms.

I have thousands of hours flying airplanes and helicopters, and I take every precaution to limit risk, especially in Alaska, where things can get serious fast. Off-airport flying isn’t something you just ‘try out’...Get proper training from a CFI (Like those at Fly8MA) before you even think about it! ⚠️
