On view now at the Montclair Art Museum is a very special lacrosse stick created as a collaboration between artists Brandon Lazore (Onondaga Nation) [@brandonlazore] and Jack Johnson (Akwasasne Mohawk) [@officialjohnsonlacrosse].
Commissioned especially for MAM’s new long-term installation “Interwoven Power: Native Knowledge / Native Art,” this stick features Haudenosaunee iconography across its surface – likely the first known instance of an artist using the entirety of a lacrosse stick as a canvas.
Watch as Exhibition Collaborator Todd Caissie (Osage Nation) [@todd_caissie], who commissioned this work for the Museum, describes how the stick came to be and shares about the intentions of the project.
You can view the full-length video on MAM's YouTube channel by visiting the link in our bio.
