Episode 2 (Pt 2) of our Deep South Road Trip in New Zealand starts at camp with bacon pancakes + Canadian maple syrup, then we pack up and chase the coast south, pulling over between Kātiki and Shag Point because the water is too good to ignore.

Then it’s Dunedin, big hills, iconic buildings, and the main mission: Tunnel Beach.
We hike down, step into the tunnel… and walk out into a beach that feels completely hidden from the world. The sand literally “sings” under your feet, we spot a New Zealand sea lion, and we explore the cliffs wondering how parts of this coastline used to connect.

From there the day keeps stacking:
✅ harbour views over Careys Bay (with a massive ship guided in by tugboats)
✅ a lightning-quick stop at Orokonui Ecosanctuary (we spot a tūī)
✅ Baldwin Street - the world’s steepest road.
✅ and then the perfect finish… we see a sign that says “Scenic Route”, so we take it. Ending at Puketeraki Lookout with those classic Otago coast views, and a sunset drive back to Christchurch with the girls falling asleep in the back.
