We head over the Pennines for the East Lancashire Railway's Summer Diesel Gala. Visiting the railway during the weekend were:
BR Class 42 Warship No D821 Greyhound.
BR Class 37 No 37059.
BR Class 20 No 20305 (Not seen in this video)
The visit of Greyhound gave the railway a chance to run it alongside resident Class 42 No 832 Onslaught and on this day, they double headed a few services. Several of the home fleet were operational as well as BR Class 28 No D5705 being on display at Bury Bolton Street.
00 We begin at Bury Bolton Street Station. A station in which the station booking hall has a 60s charm to it. We also get a view of the platform as well.
13 The first train we see is BR Class 50 No 50015 Valiant partaking in shunting BR Class 28 Co-Bo No D5705 into the bay platform. The sole surviving Met Vic Type 2 (Currently under restoration) is next seen on display with guided tours of it being conducted as well.
40 With its shunting completed, BR Class 50 No 50015 Valiant runs through the furthest platform from us.
14 Class 35 Hymek No D7076 runs through Bury Bolton Street. It was recently repainted into BR Rail Blue livery.
45 BR Class 42 Warship No D821 Greyhound arrives with a service for Heywood. It is visiting from the Severn Valley Railway.
26 BR Class 25 No 25279 arrives from Heywood with a service for Rawtenstall. The Hymek will pilot this train.
16 BR Class 35 Hymek No D7076 and BR Class 25 No 25279 depart Ramsbottom with a service for Rawtenstall.
38 BR Class 42 Warship No 832 Onslaught arrives with a shuttle from Bury. It then runs out of the station into a siding to run around and allow the next train to arrive.
05 BR Class 50 No 50015 Valiant arrives at Ramsbottom with a service to Rawtenstall. BR Class 42 No D821 Greyhound is on the rear.
06 BR Class 50 No 50015 Valiant departs Ramsbottom. These locomotives were nicknamed Hoovers due to the distinctive sound they make.
54 At Rawtenstall, we see BR Class 42 Warship No D821 Greyhound about to depart with a service back to Bury. Entering service in 1960, she lasted until December 1972. Her survival was kinda a result of a major blunder when BR Class 22 Baby Warship No D6319 was scrapped after it was put aside for preservation.
07 BR Class 42 Warship No D821 Greyhound departs Rawtenstall. This is one for those who like the sound of a Diesel Hydraulic.
53 BR Class 25 No 25279 departs Bury with a shuttle for Ramsbottom.
06 BR Class 47 No 47765 arrives from Heywood with a service for Rawtenstall. BR Class 45 Peak No 45108 would couple to the rear of the train.
42 BR Class 42 Warship No 832 Onslaught sits at Bury Bolton Street. Built in 1961 at Swindon, she lasted until December 1972. She entered preservation in 1979 after a stint in departmental service.
54 The highlight of the event as BR Class 42 Warship Nos D821 Greyhound and 832 Onslaught depart for Heywood. They would return with a service for Rawtenstall.
30 BR Class 37 Nos 37109 and 37059 head through Bury Bolton Street. The headlights on the latter indicate an ex DRS locomotive.
06 BR Class 45 Peak No 45108 (With BR Class 47 No 47765) arrive at Ramsbottom with a service for Heywood.
54 BR Class 40 No D345 is seen in the bay platform where Class 28 No D5705 stood, its waiting to take over from the pair of Warships.
01 BR Class 45 No 45108 returns to Bury with a service from Heywood.
48 We end the video with BR Class 40 No D345 departing Bury Bolton Street with a Heywood bound service. She usually spends most of her time on main line railtours when not at the railway.
