I describe the techniques I have been using to consistently beat Diety AI with a scientific victory in under 200 turns on standard speed. No secret societies, monopolies, or heros and legends.
Key concepts:
Tempo, AI Management, Must Haves, Nice to Haves, Advanced Concepts
Tempo:
1. find a source of early gold by selling resources to the AI
2. worse initial scouting is OK if it means you don't die to barbs
3. care about what your builders are doing. \Some improvements are better than others
4. Start your initial cities with a 'tempo' district (Harbor, Commercial hub)
5. internal trade routes are very good.
AI Management:
1. Do not reveal your capital to your neighbors
2. always send delegation to your neighbors
3. Don't keep your head in the sand, you know when they are coming
4. Sending favorable trade deals can sometimes flip AI to friendly
5. Increase city combat strength
6. Ban certain AI from your games with agendas that cannot be satisfied early.
Must Haves:
1. Kilwa
2. Ruhr
3. 3-4 scientific city states
4. positive amenities
5. 10+ cities
6. Research labs by turn 145
7. medieval golden age
Nice to Haves:
1. Colosseum
2. Oxford
3. Casa
4. Potala
5. Large Ben
6. Forbidden
7. 4-5 scientific city states
8. classical golden age
9. happy or ecstatic cities
10. Kumasi, Geneva, Taruga, etc...
waste of time (mostly):
1. Oracle
2. Halicarnassus
Advanced Techniques:
1. Convert to campus first cites after turn 110 or so.
2. Rena spaceport buy
3. focus science the turn that moon landing finishes
4. chop everything in space port cites to produce the final acceleration projects faster.
