今回は岡山県笠岡市にあります遍照寺多宝塔（へんじょうじたほうとう）の紹介です。
This time, I would like to introduce the Tahoto Pagoda of Henjoji Temple in Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture.

1606(慶長11)年の建立で、岡山県の多宝塔建築の中では最も古い。
この多宝塔の亀腹(ドーム状の屋根)は本瓦葺きになっているが、かつては漆喰で固めてあったものを、明治時代の修理のときに改変したといわれている。
内部の天井・壁・柱などには、絵師の釣雪(ちょうせつ)によって極彩色の装飾模様・絵画が描かれた。
多宝塔の傍らには、落慶法要のために法華経を読誦したことを記す石碑が立っている。
また、多宝塔と並んでそびえ立つ大きなイチョウの木は、塔の建立記念に植樹されたといわれている(市指定天然記念物)。
遍照寺は駅前区画整理事業によって移転しており、現在、多宝塔の周囲は「いちょう公園」」として整備され、憩いの場となっている。
Built in 1606 (Keicho 11), it is the oldest pagoda in Okayama Prefecture.
The dome-shaped roof of this pagoda is covered with real tiles, but it is said that it was once covered with plaster and was remodeled during repairs in the Meiji period.
The interior ceilings, walls, pillars and other areas are decorated with brilliantly colored decorative patterns and paintings by the artist Chosetsu.
Beside the pagoda stands a stone monument which records the recitation of the Lotus Sutra for the completion ceremony.
The large ginkgo tree that stands alongside the pagoda is said to have been planted to commemorate the pagoda's construction (it is a city-designated natural monument).
Henjoji Temple was relocated as part of a land readjustment project in front of the station, and the area around the pagoda has now been developed into Ginkgo Park, a place of relaxation.
