Today, Virginia City Highlands is just far enough away to feel secluded from the busy city of Reno. Only the Virginia Foothills and Geiger Lookout Wayside Park sit between the neighborhood and the southern end of Reno. The Summit Reno is one of the largest shopping centers in Reno, easily accessible by residents of Virginia City. The community is 20 minutes southeast of The Summit, home to upwards of 60 retailers. Shop in stores like Apple, Old Navy, and Dilliard’s, or enjoy a meal at Skipolini’s, Burger Me!, or Miguel’s Mexican Food.

Galena Junction Shopping Center has a neighborhood Raley’s and the locally owned and operated Truckee Bagel Company. South Towne Crossing is a center with a Walmart Supercenter, Mel’s Diner, Doughboy’s Donuts, and Ijji Noodle House. South Meadows Promenade is minutes away with a Sprouts Farmers Market, Blaze Pizza, Chipotle, Marshalls, and Chase Bank.

Washoe Lake and Little Washoe Lake are a 30-minute trip for residents. The Scripps State Wildlife Management Area and Washoe Lake State Park are readily available to visitors. Washoe Lake is a fantastic recreation area and in only half the travel time of a trip to Lake Tahoe.

The Toiyabe Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course located at the southwestern corner of Washoe Lake. The golf course rests at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Wolf Run Golf Club is another fantastic course, this one located off ArrowCreek Parkway in Reno. Fieldcreek Ranch encompasses Wolf Run, providing a beautiful environment with the picturesque Mount Rose southwest of the course.
