"In difficult circumstances, you have to make difficult choices," he told reporters following a Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase meeting on Wednesday.

He said that the current world scenario is not the same as it was before.

"We have to make a judgement in light of the world's general condition," he remarked.

"It does not imply the wheel of the economy or our growth would grind to a halt," the finance minister clarified his comment on difficult choices.

According to him, the government may decide to temporarily halt luxury imports. "However, we can purchase such products in two or six months."
His comments were in response to the Bangladesh Bank's recent decision to raise the LC margin for luxury imports and the prime minister's directive not to take on new road development projects.

Non-essential projects might be delayed, but not scrapped, according to the minister.

"Such initiatives are being restructured so that we can efficiently handle the problem." "Our economy will pick up speed as a result of our management," he remarked.

He also said that no one can predict when the Russia-Ukraine conflict would conclude.

He said that the Covid issue is no longer a problem for any nation. The effect of the Russia-Ukraine conflict is being felt across the globe. The suffering is shared by everybody.
