Your 11 p.m. Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio Weather Impact forecast for Jan. 21, 2025: A major artic outbreak followed by potential accumulating snows highlight the rest of this week through the weekend. Bursts of snow are sliding east thru the area along a cold front tonight. Accumulations should be an inch or less. Flurries are likely after midnight. Lows tonight will drop into the middle and upper 20s.
Some lake effect snow is possible in the primary snowbelt on Thursday. The rest of us should see a mix of clouds and sunshine. Temperatures will hover in the 20s through early afternoon before falling into the teens by evening.
A stronger arctic cold front will arrive before sunrise on Friday. Temperatures start off in the lower teens Friday morning but then quickly drop into the single digits during the afternoon. Blustery winds will drop our wind chills down quickly into the minus-10 to minus-15-degree range during the morning and afternoon. It will be very cold!
Weather Impact Alerts begin on Friday as bitterly cold air surges in. We'll start in the mid to upper 10s in the morning, but temps will tank throughout the day into the single digits with wind chill values falling into the -10 to -20 degree range late Friday. We'll likely have a band of lake snow that sinks south through the day Friday as well. Bitterly cold air sticks around on Saturday with quieter conditions.
Weather Impact Alerts have been added to Sunday and Monday — not for the bitter cold, but for accumulating snow. This well-advertised winter storm will be taking shape to our south, stretching from Texas all the way to the Carolinas. This storm system will have a large area of heavy snow on the north side, a large area of freezing rain in the middle and rain along the Gulf Coast. All this being said, there will be major impacts across much of the southern U.S. into the Tennessee and Ohio valleys. The latest track continues to shift slightly north which brings widespread accumulating snow through Ohio Saturday night through late Sunday.
The track will be fine-tuned the next few days and we can start to talk snow totals, but for now it looks like many of us could get a shovel-able snow from this one Sunday into Sunday night. Stay tuned, we'll have updates in the days ahead!
Well-below-average temperatures continue through the end of the month and into next.
