The situation of one's spine affects the well being of the entire body. The movement of the limbs flows from an articulate spine, supporting and contributing to their strength and flexibility. Becoming aware of how we use our limbs can show us if it’s functional or if it creates tension, effort and pain and where we come up against our judgments, belief systems and concepts that are entangled in our movement patterns. If we’re willing to say yes to our self, changing our movements with awareness is a non confrontational way for the mind to change and follow the body in its new freedom.
In the training of Romi, we are guided towards this understanding of self through motion. Our range of motion is the indicator of the restrictions and judgments we’ve placed upon our self since infancy and beyond.
Humility is the gift we give to our self when we allow passage through our self created barriers.
As we learn to become skilled in moving with precision and awareness of self we are able to touch another being in this way for them to remember the feeling of their beauty and freedom as a spirit embodied.
