S. Korea's import tariff on LNG soared by 71.2% y/y in 2022 to over US$ 6 bil.

Import tariffs on liquified natural gas or LNG.increased by more than 70 percent last year amid soaring energy prices.
According to Korea Customs Service on Monday, the total import tariff on LNG last year came to over 6 billion U.S. dollars up 71-point-2 percent on-year.
Although the government had temporarily lowered customs tax to zero percent for heating-purpose LNG in 2021 the associated value-added tax.more than doubled from a year earlier pushing the total up.
One official from the Korea Customs Service says it's inevitable for tariffs to rise as sky-high energy prices remain.
