Operation Ten-Go (April 7, 1945) marks the, or 81st anniversary in 2026, of the final major Imperial Japanese Navy mission. The battleship Yamato, accompanied by nine other ships, was sunk by U.S. carrier aircraft while attempting a suicide attack against Allied forces at Okinawa. The disaster resulted in over 4,000 deaths.

Key Details of Operation Ten-Go:
Date: April 7, 1945.

Significance: Last major naval operation of WWII for Japan, designed as a one-way, "suicide" mission.

Key Ship Loss: Yamato, the largest battleship in the world, was sunk.

Other Losses: Light cruiser Yahagi and several destroyers (Hamakaze, Isokaze, Kasumi, Asashimo) were also sunk.

Casualties: The majority of Yamato's 3,332 crew were killed.

The operation was a direct response to the Allied invasion of Okinawa, which began on April 1, 1945.
